Royal Melbourne Hospital

The Royal Melbourne is Victoria’s oldest and largest public hospital, founded in 1848. It is also Australia’s busiest hospital and with the biggest Neurosurgical Department. It is a major trauma centre with a helipad and accepts severely ill patients from all over Victoria. There are 11 operating theatres. There is a dedicated team of nurses, doctors, residents and registrars to provide highest standards of 24 hour care. There are plans to majorly expand the hospital over the next 5 years, incorporating the Parkville Comprehensive Cancer Centre. The Royal Melbourne Hospital is part of the “Parkville precinct” with Melbourne University and numerous medical research institutes close by, an environment which contributes to the cutting edge research and world-class medical knowledge in the area. Melbourne Private Hospital

Located right next door to the Royal Melbourne Hospital is the Melbourne Private Hospital, established in May 1995 and owned and run by Healthscope Pty Ltd. There are 4 operating theatres with the latest technologies including operating microscopes and computer neuro-navigation systems. There is a 24 bed ward on level 8 which specialises in neurological patients and has the highest standards of care and facilities as well as highly trained nursing staff, physiotherapists and allied health staff.
