A/ Prof Andrew Davidson

Associate Professor Andrew Davidson is a neurosurgeon at Parkville Neurosurgery. He works at Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, and Melbourne Private Hospital.

A/Prof Davidson is the neurosurgical lead for the Victorian Gamma Knife Centre at Peter Mac. His clinical interests include the multidisciplinary management of brain tumours, stereotactic radiosurgery, pituitary and skull base surgery (including minimally invasive and endoscopic surgery), cerebrovascular surgery, and spine surgery. He is the Deputy Director of Surgical Services at Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Dr Davidson grew up in south-east Queensland, and completed his medical degree at University of Queensland in 1994. He served as a Medical Officer in the Royal Australian Navy until 2002, and commenced neurosurgical training in Sydney in 2003. During his training he completed a Master of Surgery in Neurosurgery (awarded in 2006). Dr Davidson obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2008. In 2008-2010 he undertook a combined clinical and research fellowship in cerebrovascular surgery at Macquarie University, and was awarded his PhD in 2014, for research on the molecular biology of brain arteriovenous malformations (AVMs).

A/Prof Davidson moved to Melbourne in 2021, having previously worked at Macquarie Neurosurgery – Sydney’s leading academic neurosurgery group – for 13 years. During his time in Sydney, he was the Neuro-Oncology Tumour Program Lead, Chair of the Macquarie University Hospital Neuro-Oncology and Pituitary Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), and Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at Macquarie University.

In 2021, Dr Davidson was appointed as a Clinical Associate Professor within the Sir Peter MacCallum Department of Oncology at University of Melbourne. His academic and research interests include the functional assessment of brain tumour patients, and Evidence-Based Medicine. He has a strong interest in medical education; Dr Davidson is a member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons’ Academy of Surgical Educators, and is on the Surgical Education and Training Board of the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia (NSA).

Associate Professor Davidson holds the rank of Surgeon Commander in the Royal Australian Navy. CMDR Davidson has undertaken operation service in Bougainville and East Timor, and in 2021 completed a deployment to the Combined Joint Task Force – OIR Role 3 Hospital in the Middle East, where he was awarded the ADF Operational Service Medal. He continues to serve as a Staff Officer and a simulation instructor for the Australian Defence Force.

Dr Davidson is happy to see patients in the Parkville Neurosurgery rooms, or through the public hospital outpatient department at Royal Melbourne Hospital or Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
